Making Real Progress
Our democracy is not what it should be. Too many people
want to vote but can't. Too many elections are
foregone conclusions. Too many people are stuck with
a legislator they voted against.
There is a better way. Legislatures that represent majorities
and minorities. Ballots that let voters rank candidates.
Registration on election day so everyone can participate.
We are lobbying our elected officials to make this happen.
And we need your help.

Mission
The Midwest Democracy Center is a non-partisan membership
group aggressively lobbying to improve our democracy.
Our main goal is to revive cumulative voting in
three-seat districts for the Illinois House, as
used from 1870-1980. We work to minimize barriers
to voting by shrinking the month-long lockout period
before elections where registration is illegal.
We work to eliminate spoiler campaigns and wasted
votes by allowing voters to rank candidates with
instant runoff voting. |

Your contribution funds citizen lobbyists working
in Springfield, county boards and city councils
across the state. With your support we can continue
to lobby the Illinois General Assembly, produce
educational websites and brochures, earn endorsements
from important constituencies and ultimately implement
the laws that make our governments better represent
us. |
